New Faculty Welcome Committee

Committee of the United Faculty Alliance, UPI Local 4100

About

Purpose: This committee aims to educate new faculty at NIU about the union and recruit new faculty to become UFA members through a regularly scheduled (2-3 times annually) welcome presentation.

Presentation Dates: twice annually in early September and mid-February

In scope

  • Preparing, inviting and giving a presentation to new faculty about the union 2-3 times per year.

  • Coordinating with UFA organisers to follow-up with new faculty who attend this presentation.

Not in scope

  • Coordinating UFA organisers to reach out to new faculty who do not attend the presentation.

  • Coordinating all recruitment efforts for new faculty.

Membership

Composition: 3+ members, of which 2+ are untenured and 1+ is tenured

Time Commitment: Members of this subgroup agree to meet 1-2 times per semester to arrange and prepare the presentation, to present, and follow-up with 1-2 faculty. All together, it’s estimated that this is about 5 hours of work per semester (fall and spring), with some extra work for the person who’s leading the group to coordinate.
